Honoring Dr. Bashford Dean (American, 1867–1928), the founding curator of The Met's world-class arms and armor collection, our handsome tie design features an Italian armor (ca. 1400–50 or later) made of steel, copper alloy, textile, and leather. Dean's intent was to present a full armor of the style worn about 1400, a period from which no complete armors survive.
